CPU microcode
In January 2008, Intel changed the license of its microcode updates, allowing them to be packaged into Debian. Support for AMD followed in 2012.
In January 2018, OpenBSD gained the ability to load microcode for Intel CPU, in the wake of Spectre v1/v2/ v3. Support for AMD was added in July 2023.
Those additions came pretty late, especially considering the significant amount of erratas affecting both Intel and AMD processors.
